Identity politics in northeast India

India’s Northeast has long been risen by protracted armed conflicts for secession and movements other forms of autonomy. Northeast, the confederation eight states (i.e, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim Tripura) is home to around 200 indigenous communities. All these communities struggle recognition Indian government have their own respective identity. This paper examines how various brands identity politics since colonial days served create basis exclusion groups, resulting in rifts, often envisaged binary terms, majority-minority, sons soil-immigrant, local outsiders, tribal-non-tribal, hills, plains, inter tribal intra-tribal.
